Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register?

You can register by printing a registration form from our website and mailing it in, by bringing the paper entry to packet pick up, or by registering online.  We will also accept paper entries on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at packet pick up, provided the races are not sold out.  NO Sunday/Race Day registrations.

How do I know if I am registered?

If you registered for the Merced Half Marathon by mail, you will receive a confirmation email confirming your acceptance into the race.

If you registered online, you will receive a confirmation email confirming your acceptance into the race.

You can also email us at eventstaff@runningmerced.com

There is an error on my confirmation email.  What should I do?

Email us at eventstaff@runningmerced.com with the correct information.

When and where do I pick up my race packet?

Race packets pick up will be available for pick up on October 15, 2016 - location TBA.  There will also be a packet pick up Sunday morning from 6:00 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. at UC Merced, the race start.

I am not able to make it to Race Packet Pick up.  What are my options?

If you cannot make it to packet pick-up, you may have another person (family member or friend) pick up your race packet for you.  The person picking up the packet will need the following:

A letter of authorization from you (example:  I, Jane Doe, authorize John Smith to pick up my race packet)

A copy of your confirmation email.

The person performing the packet pick up will need to present these materials to one of the volunteers at the packet-pick up area.

I am injured, pregnant, or no longer able to attend the race.  Can I get a refund?

Entry fees are non-refundable.  The only exception that will be made to our "no refund policy" is for those who are on active military duty and are deployed for service (a copy of a deployment order is required).

Can I defer my entry to next year?

Yes. Please contact us using the contact page.

Can I give/sell my registration to another person?

Yes.  If you have registered for the Merced Half Marathon you may sell or pass on your registration to another person. You must use the transfer option at active.com by no later than October 1, 2016.  No exceptions.

Where do I park on race day?

UC Merced has permitted the race to use its parking facilities.  A map will be included in our detailed race-day instructions, which will be emailed to participants in the week prior to the run.  Parking will open at 6:00 a.m.

I want to volunteer!  Who do I contact?

You're our new best friend!  We love to receive help from spectators waiting for their loved ones to come in.  Complete our volunteer form on the website or contact Natalie at natalie@runningmerced.com.

Can I walk the Half Marathon?

We do not have a walking division.  The race runs on a 5-hour timeclock.  However, walking the race is very doable and quite fun.  Walkers are asked to use racer etiquette and will be asked to queue up behind runners at the start line.  Because the event is chip-timed, it doesn't matter how far back you start from the start-line -- your individual chip timer won't start tracking your time until you cross the start line and begin the event.

What type of product are stocked at the aid stations?

We provide both water and a sports/electrolite drink as well as sports nutrition packets.

Can I run with . . . my pet . . . my baby stroller?

No bicycles, baby joggers, roller skates, roller skies, inline skates, pets or unofficial participants will be allowed on the Half Marathon race course. The 5K course permits strollers and joggers, provided those participants start at the back of the race.

Can someone join me on my run?

No. Unless he/she is a paid participant, no one should run the course with you.

Can I use my Ipod/Iphone/audio device?

For safety reasons, we strongly discourage runners from using any such devices during the race.  If you feel that you must have one with you, please keep the volume adjusted so that you can hear vehicular traffic, instructions from the police or course marshals, and comments from nearby runners.
